    MODELLING PLASTER EFFECTS

    Technical Information Sheet

Prepare the Modelling Plaster as per its Technical Information Sheet.

    Application

Having mixed Modelling Plaster to a prepared paste the mixture must be used immediately.

The mixture can be coloured with Pigments or Colour Concentrate (use no more than 150g pigment to 1 kg Modelling Plaster and no more than 25% colour concentrate to 1 kg Modelling Plaster). Soak pigments in a little water overnight.

Whisk/stir into Modelling Plaster till completely blended. If using Colour Concentrate - mix with the water and then add to the Modelling Plaster. Use immediately as plaster stiffens in 3 - 4 hours

Note: The finished surface is absorbent, before Colourwashing we advise sealing the surface with Glaze Medium, one part Glaze Medium four parts water. See Glaze Medium Technical Information Sheet.

Modelling Plaster can be applied as a Rough finish or as a Smooth finish.

    1) Rough Finish

Using a brush or trowel apply your first coat thinly, approx. 2mm thick. Allow to dry 3 - 4 hours.

Apply a second coat by dabbing very small amounts of the plaster randomly, smooth this second coat with your trowel, leaving small islands/patches for a rough, distressed finish.

Alternatively you can apply the second coat with a large brush, crosshatching in large strokes to give a light textured brushed finish.

    Allow to dry 12 hours.

Lightly sand with medium grade sandpaper. Paint or Colourwash. See Special Effects Sheets Nos. 1 and 3.

    2) Smooth Finish

Using a trowel apply your first coat thinly, approximately 2mm thick, allow to dry 3 - 4 hours.

Apply a second 2mm thick coat smoothing the mixture with your trowel, like applying plaster! Leave to dry 12 hours and lightly sand for a smooth finish. Then paint or colourwash. See Special Effects Sheets.
