MIXING CASEIN, PIGMENT AND GLAZE MEDIUM TO CREATE A SEMI-TRANSPARENT EFFECT

    Technical Information Sheet

Having followed preparation and application instructions for Casein Paint or Emulsion a Casein Semitransparent Colourwash can be applied to your surface. See Technical Information Sheet 110 and 120

    Application

Make up Casein Powder with either Pigment, or Colour Concentrate as set out in Technical Information Sheets.

Mix in 1/5 Glaze Medium and stir well. This will thicken the Casein. Add enough water to obtain a 'runny milky' consistency.
    Instructions:

Casein Semitransparent Colourwash can be applied over Casein or Emulsion or used in successive coats alone, creating a textured Semi-opaque finish.

Always stir this mixture well at regular intervals to prevent the casein settling.

Apply the Semitransparent Colourwash with a brush, using wide crosshatch strokes across the surface creating texture. Adding more water lightens the colour. Do not make it too thin or the paint will run down the wall. Work methodically with large free strokes eliminating any 'runs' as you work. The result is a stunning, soft matt slightly mottled two tone finish. The base grins through.

Depending on the effect required you may apply at least three coats, allowing each coat to dry 1 - 3 hours. You can apply successive coats of different colours - always start with the darkest shade progressing to the lightest shade. This can achieve a beautiful watery textured effect not achieved by conventional paints.

Note: Casein is always transparent on application but dries opaque. Do not be alarmed when each successive application of paint makes your surface transparent - it will dry opaque. This is the nature of Casein, there is no other paint like it for wonderful bright colours and texture.

Always carry out a colour test on white card or paper first.

Adding Glaze Medium affects the breathability of Casein.
