WOOD STAINS
Technical Information Sheet
| Making
Wood Stains using Glaze Medium and WBC Wax. Wood stains can be applied to newly sanded wooden surfaces or used to create transparent glaze finishes on painted surfaces. 1) 'Mat' Wood Stain. To make a 'mat' wood stain using Colour Concentrate and Glaze Medium combine together the following: 1 part Colour Concentrate, 3 parts Glaze Medium and 4 parts water. Mix well and stir regularly during application. Using a paint brush or painters pad, apply a thin even coat to your surface. Allow to dry for 1 hour. Sand the surface lightly. A second coat can be applied which will deepen the colour, or apply a second coat of 1 part Glaze Medium/ 3 parts water. The finished surface is wipeable but not water repellent. 2) 'Satin' Wood Stain. To make a 'satin' wood stain using Colour Concentrate and WBC Wax combine together the following: 1 part Colour Concentrate, 4 parts WBC Wax and 2 parts water. Mix well and stir regularly during application. Using a paint brush or painters pad, apply a thin even coat to your surface. If surface bubbles appear brush them out without reloading your brush. Allow to dry for 30 minutes. Use a white scotch pad to polish or buff to a soft sheen. A second coat can be applied which will deepen the colour, or apply a second coat of 1 part WBC Wax and 2 parts water. Allow to dry and buff again. The finished surface is wipeable but not water repellent. To seal the surface and make it water repellent use 'clear' Antique Wax. Note: If an aged and distressed finish is required seal the with 'clear' Antique Wax and then use either 'white' or 'walnut' Antique Wax depending on the effect required. 3) 'Semi Opaque' Wood Stain. To make a 'semi-opaque' wood stain using Emulsion and WBC Wax combine together the following: 4 parts WBC Wax, 1 part Emulsion and 6 parts water. Mix well and stir regularly during application. Using a paint brush or painters pad, apply a thin even coat to your surface. Allow to dry for 1 hour. Use a white scotch pad to polish or buff the surface to achieve a soft opaque sheen. A second coat can be applied which will deepen the colour, and make the surface more opaque. Alternatively, apply a second coat of 1 part WBC Wax to 2 parts water and polish or buff as above. The finished surface is wipeable but not water repellent. |
