An example of a Devon stone rubble wall repair, lime putty mortar re-pointing and re-rendering.
The pointing was applied according to our Practical Repair Guide sheet. The materials used were Unhaired Lime Putty Mortar and were gauged with a pozzolan. Note how the mortar is applied so not to sit proud of the face of the stone. This is for aesthetics and practical reasons.
The render was applied according to our Practical Repair Guide sheet. Materials used were Lime Putty Mortar scat coat, and Lime Putty Mortar (Haired) scratch coat and a final Lime Putty Mortar (unhaired) float coat and sponged finish before decorating with a white limewash.
This type of work can be undertaken with guidance by enthusiastic amateurs. We offer a Practical course in using lime in renovation and a DVD based on the course. We also provide advice over the telephone or by email
