Limecrete floor systems supplied by Mike Wye are LABC Assured. Glasscrete uses foam glass aggregate as the sub-base instead of expanded clay aggregate which was used in early forms of limecrete floors.

If you need further information on our floor systems, or would like a free u value calculation or materials quotation please contact our technical sales team or browse our individual limecrete products here.
Materials supplied nationwide from stock. Our experienced building conservation team can provide a full installation service throughout Devon and the surrounding counties.

Glasscrete®
Glasscrete® is a modern form of limecrete floor that incorporates GEOCELL Foam Glass gravel as the moisture managing, insulating base. Foam glass is a lightweight, breathable loose lay aggregate and, being made from 100% recycled glass is sustainable insulation.
This is an updated version of the original limecrete system capable of being used as a load bearing hardcore. It also has better insulation per thickness of sub-base (approximately 20% better thermal performance compared to clay aggregate).
- Levelled and compacted ground
- Layer of geotextile membrane
- Compacted GEOCELL Foam Glass
- Layer of geotextile membrane
- U/F heating pipes attached to grid
- Lime screed/slab: 2 parts aggregate 1 part NHL5 by volume with 30 mm cork board surround. Fibratec V12 Concrete Fibres can be used for additional reinforcement (optional)
- Floor finish*
*Bedding screed 20-50 mm of 2 parts aggregate to 1 part NHL5 if using flagstones or tile as a finish. Grout with 2 parts aggregate to 1 part NHL.
Notes
- The use of GEOCELL in the capillary fringe of ground water or water source areas is not recommended. Install drainage system/capillary moisture barrier if required
- For design thicknesses greater than 300 mm, placing and compaction should be undertaken in 2 or 3 separate layers
Glasscrete Components
Below you will find the individual components used to create a Glasscrete Floor system.
However, you don’t have to waste your time calculating volumes and costs. We have a free design and quotation service you can use – therefore all we need from you is your floor area, total available depth (or target U value), the length of the external perimeter walls, and the delivery postcode, we’ll take care of the rest!
This vapour permeable geotextile membrane can be used for gardening or landscaping purposes. We supply it for use in a build up for breathable flooring systems. It comes in a 4.5 m roll so we cut it down into linear metre lengths as required for ease of carriage.
GEOCELL Foam Glass aggregate (or gravel) is versatile because of its unique light weight, load bearing, draining and insulating properties providing a sustainable replacement for conventional building materials.
Foam glass aggregate is a natural insulation material for underground structures that saves energy, insulates and contributes to a comfortable indoor environment. It is both economical and environmentally sound.
✔︎ EXCELLENT INSULATING VALUES: the large number of enclosed cells in each pellet, ensures excellent insulation characteristics. lambda = 0,08 w/mK
✔︎ INCREDIBLY STRONG: due to its glass cell structure, GEOCELL foam glass provides excellent compressive strength
✔︎ NON-CAPILLARY, NON COMBUSTIBLE: Cellular glass is comprised of closed cells that do not absorb water. Classified as an A1 building material
✔︎ PERMANENTLY STABLE: stability, durability, resistance against insects and rodents
✔︎ SUSTAINABLE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY: made from 100% recycled glass – inert and essentially ph-neutral
✔︎ SAVING TIME AND MONEY: Foam glass is quicker to install than conventional methods cutting construction time and cost
Standard GEOCELL Foam Glass aggregate grain sizes range from 10 mm to 60 mm*.
*A 10 mm to 30 mm grade size is available for depths less than 150 mm.
Foam glass needs to be compacted by wacker plate if being used as flooring or foundations. You should allow up to 30% extra volume when calculating for a compacted application.
Secil NHL5 is fast setting and ideal for limecrete floors whether used with sand aggregates or insulating aggregate such as ‘light expanded clay aggregate’. The Secil NHL has a similar strength to the French NHLs.
Cork board insulation by SecilVit is a high performance, natural, sustainable and vapour permeable insulation.
Cork board insulation by SecilVit is made entirely from natural and renewable cork.
We supply 30 mm Cork Boards in pack or individually which are cut to size and installed against the external walls before the screed is installed. For more information on Cork Boards click here.
